Progressive

The United Church of Christ (UCC) is generally considered a progressive denomination, known for its commitment to social justice, human rights, and environmental issues. They've been recognized as a church of “firsts" in many areas, including ordaining women and openly gay ministers, and advocating for civil rights and LGBTQ+ rights. UCC churches often embrace a more inclusive and open approach to faith, emphasizing individual spiritual journeys and a diverse range of theological perspectives.

Open and Affirming

Sylvania United Church of Christ, claimed by God and responding as disciples of Jesus Christ, embraces diversity and affirms the dignity and worth of all persons as created in the image of God. We invite all who seek to experience the healing and unconditional grace of God to fully participate in our community of faith. Endeavoring to be faithful to Jesus’ prayer that we be one (John 17:21), we are open and affirming of each child of God regardless of race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith background, age, and physical or mental ability.

What We Believe

We believe all are welcome and united by God’s love. For The United Church of Christ, Justice and Jesus are inseparable. Our daily worship is anchored by the belief that God is still speaking.

We believe that each person is unique and valuable. It is the will of God that every person belongs to a family of faith where they have a strong sense of being valued and loved.
