A MESSAGE FROM THE MODERATORS

We hope that you are safe and well at home. It is a time of uncertainty for all. Fortunately, we have our powerful faith community to support and guide us, and the love of Almighty God.

Please know that your church staff is working hard to ensure that we maintain our community and spiritual links while we are unable to meet in person. On March 18th a link to our first “keeping in touch” video communication was emailed to all members with email accounts.  In this you will hear from Bridge Pastor David Andersen, and from staff members Kristen Leverton, Elaine Jansen, Joyce Beatty and Mary Meadows. Each described their particular focus during this emergency. Some activities are underway and some are in development, and each ministry is being supported by lay volunteers.

To briefly summarize, David is coordinating staff efforts and will provide approximately weekly video chats to update the congregation. He also hopes to provide regular written or audio devotionals. Kristen is maintaining contact with our most vulnerable members and may be reaching out for assistance from our lower risk members. Elaine will continue communicating with the young families through virtual chats. She also noted that the Prayer Partners will soon begin to communicate with the children of the congregation.  Elaine may facilitate some other small group online interactions such as the book club. Mary Meadows continues to teach confirmation and she and other volunteers will keep in touch with other youth and college age individuals. Sally and Lori are in daily touch with choir members and working on future music. Joyce will be in the office regularly, though her specific days and hours are to be determined. She will transfer church calls to her personal phone when she is not physically present at church during regular hours. Joyce has recently updated and emailed the church directory to members to make it easier for all of us to keep in touch.

As you can see, our Bridge Pastor and staff are hard at work serving Sylvania United Church of Christ. If we are still under restrictions at Easter, we will have a full Easter celebration and give thanks for all that God has given us when it is safe to meet as a congregation.

We would like to remind you that, even though church services are suspended, there is an ongoing need for your financial support so that we can continue to support our staff and maintain our building. Your contributions can be mailed to the church or made online at sylvaniaucc.org (use the blue Donate tab at the top of the page). If you need assistance, please call the church office at 419 882-0048.

Looking forward to when we can once again gather and worship together!

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power (Ephesians 6:10).
