Outreach

At Sylvania United Church of Christ, we are called to serve compassionately and to do justice.  The Outreach Board provides numerous opportunities throughout the year for us to serve and give, both within our community and beyond.

Some service opportunities include: making pb&j sandwiches with Food for Thought, hosting a 20,000 Meal Packing Event in partnership with Impact with Hope and Christ Presbyterian, and helping Sylvania Area Family Services prepare their garden bed for planting and providing personal care products to those in need from their facility.  There are frequent opportunities for living out our faith by serving others.

Some giving opportunities include: CROP Hunger Walk, raising funds for Church World Service; special UCC offerings collected throughout the year; Feed Your Neighbor food and noisy offering collections (loose change collected by our kids on the 4th Sunday of each month); Operation PJ collection through Toledo Seagate Foodbank; and the Giving Tree at Christmas.  There are frequent opportunities for living out our faith by giving to others.

A mission trip, sponsored by the Outreach Board, is held most years.  Persons of all ages are encouraged to attend.  In the past we've traveled to Templed Hills Church Camp, Pilgrim Hills Church Camp, and Back Bay Mission.

Please contact Kristen Leverton, Director of Congregational Life, for more information.

Mission Partners

Through our Outreach Giving, each of the following organizations receive a percentage of our monies:  Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM), CUE (Chicago, United, and Eden Theological Seminaries), Feed Your Neighbor, Toledo Campus Ministry, Grace Community Center, St. Paul's Community Center, Sylvania Area Family Services, and Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.

Community

The Fellowship Board provides opportunities throughout the year for the congregation to be in community with one another.  Those opportunities include "coffee hour" on Sunday mornings in the gathering area between worship services and education classes, the all-church picnic, the chicken bbq, a MudHens game, Dinners Out, the Thanksgiving Gathering, and the Advent Festival.

We also have Drop-In Dinners frequently at the church, an informal meal hosted by various boards and committees, held on the third Monday of most months.  Free will donations are accepted.  And no reservations are needed!

Please contact Kristen Leverton, Director of Congregational Life, for more information.

Health Ministries

Health Ministries seeks to promote a life of wellness and wholeness through health-related education and counsel offered in the compassionate spirit of Jesus.  Our Health Ministries Board oversees our medical supply lending closet, health counseling, education, screenings, and flu shots.  Caring Partners is a visitation ministry to those who are unable to participate in the life of the church as fully as they wish due to limited mobility.  To get involved, please contact Kathi Taub, Director of Health Ministries.
